Dianchi Lake
The Dianchi Lake was known as "Diannan
Ze" (South Yunnan Lake) in ancient times. From the north
to the south, the whole lake is approximately 40 km long and
its average width from the east to the west amounts to 7 km.
It has a coastal line of more than 160 km and an area of approximately
300 square kilometers. It has an average depth of 5 m, the
greatest depth being 10 meters. With a total water capacity
of about 1,500,000,000 cubic meters, it is known as the largest
lake in southwest China and ranks sixth among the fresh water
lakes in China. With a beautiful landscape, the lake is known
as a "plateau jewel" and has been a tourist and
summer resort in history. Throughout the ages, many scholars
and calligraphers have produced numerous works for its beauty,
of which the "longest couplet in China" by Sun Ranweng
is the most famous. |
