Oriental Pearl TV Tower
Situated within the Pudong
Park in Lujiazui, Pudong New Area, Oriental Pearl TV Tower
is 468 meters high. Like the Statue of Liberty in New York,
Sydney Opera House and Eiffel Tower in Paris, Oriental Pearl
TV Tower is Shanghai's symbolic architecture. Along with
Nanpu Bridge and Yangpu Bridge, it forms a picture of two
dragons playing with a pearl.
The Oriental Pearl Tower consists
of three big columns, which are 9 meters in diameter, tower
base, the lower sphere, five small spheres, the upper sphere,
the space module and the square. The base of the tower is
composed of lobby, shopping mall a science fantasy city.
The two-level basement is the place for facilities. The
lower tower is 50 meters in diameter and is 68-118 meters
high. It is equipped with high-tech entertainment facilities.
The five spheres are arranged as a cluster of beads, which
are the space hotel. With a height of 250-295 meters and
a diameter of 45 meters, the upper sphere is the sightseeing
floor. It is the best place to get a bird¡¯s
eye view of Shanghai. In the upper sphere there are also
the Revolving Restaurant, the Disco Hall, the Piano Bar
and KTV rooms. The space module is 350 meters high and 16
meters in diameter, which is the sightseeing floor mainly
opened to distinguished guests. The aerial is 118 meters
high, which is able to launch TV programs from nine different
channels and radio programs from ten FM. In the tower, there
is a two-speed elevator that can run at a speed of seven
meters per second. The tower is equipped with three-dimensional
lighting installation, which makes the whole tower colorful
and bright.
From the steps to the ground floor, there
are magnificent lobby, elevator zone and shopping mall.
The business area of the mall is over 20,000 sqm, which
is bigger than the super-sized Shanghai No. 1 Department
Store. With a 50-meter diameter, the lower sphere is designed
to be the amusement park, which is composed of universe
trip, space tour, time tunnel and sightseeing corridor.
The Oriental Pearl Tower is a multi-functional
establishment satisfying various needs in tourism, dining,
shopping, entertainment, boarding and Audio & Video
Broadcasting. It has already become one of the symbolic
buildings and tourism resorts in Shanghai. It is also honored
as one of the ten best views in Shanghai.
